The 1st Meeting of the National Airport Noise Countermeasures Special Committee Held
The First Step of the Special Committee on Airport Noise under the Council of Chairpersons of Provincial Councils of the Republic of Korea
Recognizing the Seriousness of Airport Noise Issues, Aiming to Establish Practical Solutions
The 1st meeting of the National Special Committee on Airport Noise Measures under the Council of Chairpersons of Provincial Councils of the Republic of Korea was held on the 23rd at the Seoul Metropolitan Council.
The National Special Committee on Airport Noise Measures was approved in May by the Council of Chairpersons of Provincial Councils of the Republic of Korea, proposed by Chairman Kim Hyun-ki of the Seoul Metropolitan Council, to jointly respond to airport noise issues and actively seek countermeasures.

The Special Committee on Airport Noise is composed of 13 members recommended by provincial and metropolitan councils nationwide, and on this day, Vice Chairman Kim Hwang-guk of Jeju Provincial Council was elected as the chairman.
As vice chairpersons by region, Hong Won-gil from the Seoul Capital Area, Ahn Kyung-ja from the Chungcheong region, Choi Mu-kyung from the Honam region, and Park So-young from the Yeongnam region were elected, pledging to strive for regional alliances and cooperation.
Chairman Kim Hwang-guk shared issues and current status regarding the Airport Noise Prevention and Noise Countermeasure Area Support Act, the damage problems following the 2023 noise contour line re-survey, and promised to continuously develop countermeasures for the legislation and expand the National Special Committee on Airport Noise Measures to seek systematic nationwide responses.
Finally, Woo Hyung-chan, Vice Chairman of Seoul Metropolitan Council, expressed his heartfelt feelings about holding the first meeting of the National Special Committee on Airport Noise Measures and discussed the hardships of residents in airport noise-affected areas who had been neglected, emphasizing the need for a national-level response to airport noise issues.
