Gwangju Seo-gu Future Innovation Committee Proposes Expansion of Heat Relief Shelters at Meeting
The Future Innovation Committee of Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (co-chairmen Kim Ikang and Kim Jaecheol) held its 5th plenary meeting on the 26th.
According to Seo-gu on the 27th, the Future Innovation Committee emphasized the need for sufficient promotion of the functions and roles of the residents' autonomous councils during the meeting, and suggested landscaping of the surrounding environment to improve residents' quality of life for the successful operation of Seobitmaru Cultural Center.

They raised various opinions such as the need to convert disaster alert texts into images for easier understanding by those who cannot read or find long and verbose texts difficult to check, the necessity to expand cooling shelters accessible to all residents since current cooling shelters are concentrated in senior centers, and the promotion of medical staff to revitalize the Seo-gu Home Medical Care Center.
Additionally, the committee shared opinions on proposing directions for new policy establishment next year and discovering agenda items that can create a unique brand for Seo-gu in the second half of the year’s meetings.
Seo-gu plans to reflect the committee’s recommendations in district administration after review by the responsible departments.
Kim Ikang, Mayor of Seo-gu, said, “During the one year since my inauguration, we have laid the foundation for realizing ‘Together Seo-gu, Standing Seo-gu,’ and now it is time to actively implement the philosophy of the 8th elected district administration close to the residents and in the field of public livelihood, moving toward a government that serves the people.”
He added, “With the belief that the ultimate goal is ‘resident happiness,’ I will join forces and wisdom with the Future Innovation Committee members to lead changes in Seo-gu that residents can feel.”
Meanwhile, the Seo-gu Future Innovation Committee gathers opinions on the direction of district innovation and detailed implementation plans to provide policy recommendations to Seo-gu, and serves as a communication channel between the public and government by collecting civil society opinions and discovering areas for improvement in district administration.
