Gyeonggi-do to Conduct Comprehensive Crackdown on Vehicles with Unpaid Automobile Taxes and Fines on June 28
Gyeonggi Province has designated the 28th of this month as the 'First Half of the Year Gyeonggi Province Vehicle Tax Delinquency Crackdown Day' and will conduct a comprehensive crackdown on vehicles with delinquent automobile taxes across all 31 cities and counties, in cooperation with local governments, police stations, and the Korea Expressway Corporation.
The crackdown targets vehicles with three or more unpaid automobile tax installments or delinquent vehicle-related fines exceeding 300,000 KRW.
Gyeonggi Province will focus on densely populated vehicle areas such as residential neighborhoods, crowded public areas, and public parking lots to confiscate license plates.
Prior to the crackdown, Gyeonggi Province sent advance notices warning of license plate confiscation to owners of delinquent vehicles and encouraged voluntary payment.
Owners of vehicles whose license plates are confiscated during this crackdown must visit their local city or county office or financial institution to pay the full amount of delinquent taxes in order to retrieve their license plates.
However, for livelihood-type delinquents operating cargo trucks or delivery vehicles, the province plans to offer taxpayer convenience by postponing confiscation in exchange for installment payment agreements.
Ryu Young-yong, Director of the Tax Justice Division of Gyeonggi Province, stated, "We will create an atmosphere of sincere tax payment among taxpayers through continuous crackdowns on vehicles with delinquent automobile taxes."
Meanwhile, as of the end of April this year, the number of vehicles with delinquent automobile taxes in Gyeonggi Province stands at 477,467, with a total delinquent amount of 116.3 billion KRW. This accounts for 13.8% of the province's total delinquent amount of 844.8 billion KRW.
