The White House said on the 23rd (local time) that it is closely monitoring the conflict situation between Russian authorities and Yevgeny Prigozhin, the head of the Wagner Group mercenary company.
According to foreign media including AFP, Adam Hodge, spokesperson for the White House National Security Council (NSC), stated on the day, "We are carefully observing the internal situation in Russia and will consult with allies and partners." The NSC also said that U.S. President Joe Biden has been briefed on the current situation.
U.S. NBC News, citing an anonymous U.S. administration official, reported that the U.S. government is concerned that this incident could cause serious instability in Russia, a nuclear-armed country.

Russian authorities have launched an investigation into Prigozhin, who claimed that the Russian Ministry of Defense attacked Wagner Group's rear camps with missiles. In response, Prigozhin said that his subordinates crossed the Ukrainian border and entered Russia, stating, "We are ready to go to the end. We will destroy anyone who gets in our way." He also claimed to have shot down a Russian regular army helicopter.
