Vice Chairman Woo Hyung-chan, Deputy Chairman of the Education Committee Park Kang-san, and other Democratic Party members of the Seoul Metropolitan Council laid flowers at the Philippine war memorial to honor the veterans and express their gratitude for their sacrifice and dedication.
The Philippines was the third country, after the United States and the United Kingdom, to dispatch ground troops to South Korea during the Korean War, sending a total of 7,420 soldiers during the war period.
At the time of deployment, it was the first large-scale overseas dispatch in Philippine history, marked by a formal overseas deployment ceremony.
As a result of the deployment, among those who participated in the war, 112 were killed, 299 wounded, 16 missing, and 41 taken prisoner.
The Democratic Party members of the Seoul Metropolitan Council who participated in this memorial event expressed regret over the relatively low public interest in the countries that participated in the war compared to the attention and memorial enthusiasm for veterans from military powers such as the United States, the United Kingdom, and France, and pledged to find ways to increase respect and gratitude in the future.
Vice Chairman Woo Hyung-chan of the Seoul Metropolitan Council quietly spent time honoring the veterans in front of the memorial, expressing deep emotion and respect for their sacrifice in front of the UN flag, the Philippine flag, and the Korean flag.
