Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) conducted on-site inspections of major facilities on the 21st in preparation for natural disasters during the summer season.
Before the full onset of the heatwave, the district is focusing all efforts on preventing safety accidents. Following a visit to construction sites on the 12th, this time they visited residents' living spaces to address necessary areas.
The inspection route covered approximately 5 km from Gwangnaru Station to Jayang Rainwater Pump Station. Mayor Kim Kyung-ho, along with department heads and staff, closely examined whether heatwave mitigation facilities such as smart shelters, smart shade structures, and cooling fog systems were operating normally.
First, they checked the representative convenience facilities, smart shelters and shade structures. A smart shelter refers to a bus waiting area equipped with heating and cooling functions. It remotely controls the internal temperature to keep it cool, and also features fine dust purification and ultraviolet sterilization functions. These are installed at the Gwangnaru Police Substation and in front of the Gwangjin Culture and Arts Center, with plans to add two more locations in the future.
Next, they inspected the operation status of smart shade structures. Smart shade structures provide resting places for pedestrians waiting at traffic signals to avoid sunlight. They automatically fold and unfold according to weather conditions such as temperature and wind speed, and self-supply the electricity needed for automatic opening and closing by utilizing solar power. Currently, 48 units are operating mainly at crosswalks, with plans to install five more.
Additionally, they visited Guui Park to check for any abnormalities in the cooling fog system. Cooling fog is a device that sprays fine artificial mist particles to lower the surrounding temperature by 3 to 5℃. Forty units are operating in Guui Park, Gwangjin Supnaru, and Achasan, with installation at Gwangjin Square scheduled for next month.
Alongside this, they visited the Jayang 3-dong senior center heat relief shelter to communicate with the elderly. They listened to the seniors about any inconveniences in daily life and carefully considered improvements while inspecting facilities such as air conditioners.
Finally, in preparation for heavy rains during the monsoon season, they visited the Jayang Rainwater Pump Station. With record-breaking heavy rains expected this summer, they thoroughly ensured there would be no casualties. They checked the pump operation status and floor conditions, repeatedly urging special attention to preemptive measures.
