Son Hye-won: "Seems like a 'Party Centered on Cho Kuk' is Being Prepared... Hope Chu Mi-ae Joins"
Former lawmaker Son Hye-won, who once revealed plans to form a new party centered around Rep. Kim Nam-guk to save him after he left the Democratic Party of Korea amid multi-billion coin allegations, has now hinted at the possibility of a new party emerging around former Minister of Justice Cho Kuk. She recommended the inclusion of former Minister of Justice Choo Mi-ae, saying a party centered on Cho could be "a party with very clear principles."
On the 22nd, Son said on her YouTube channel 'Son Hye-won TV,' "Regardless of whether former Minister Cho Kuk runs in the general election, I think people are currently preparing a party centered around him."
The possibility of a 'Cho Kuk new party' was first suggested by Park Ji-won, a veteran politician from Honam and former National Intelligence Service director. On the 16th, he said on KBS radio that Cho is likely to run as an independent or under a new party, with the region being Gwangju. Although Rep. Woo Sang-ho of the Democratic Party refuted this, Park expressed confidence on CBS radio that morning, saying, "Let's wait and see."
Park named former Minister Choo Mi-ae as a figure who might join Cho's new party. Son said, "No matter who comes out or who supports from behind, if former Minister Cho Kuk runs, it could be a party with very clear principles. If Cho has to have a partner running alongside him, in my view, it is former Minister Choo Mi-ae."
She added, "If Cho Kuk runs together with former Minister Choo, I think any party formed will do well. Our party members, who are truly at their wit's end with this lukewarm Democratic Party, will rally and support them as if they have found refreshing spring water." This suggests that Cho's new party is likely to absorb some of the Democratic Party's support base.
