Yeongdeungpo-gu (Mayor Choi Ho-kwon) announced that from June 7 to June 12, it conducted safety inspections targeting 53 hazardous buildings (facilities) such as aged houses, walls, retaining walls, and embankments within the district in preparation for the rainy season.
This safety inspection was carried out to prevent various safety accidents such as ground erosion, falling rocks, and collapses caused by typhoons and heavy rains during the summer season.
After a primary self-inspection of the interior and exterior of hazardous buildings (facilities) as well as surrounding walls, retaining walls, and stone embankments, a secondary joint inspection was conducted with external experts (architectural structural engineers) on some buildings (facilities) identified as having accident risks.
The inspection items included ▲whether groundwater discharge, cracks, subsidence, etc. have formed on slopes ▲accumulation of fallen leaves and maintenance of drainage channels ▲risk of toppling or collapse of walls and other parts of hazardous buildings (facilities).
As a result of the safety inspection, issues that could be addressed on-site such as object storage and drainage maintenance were immediately corrected, and matters requiring urgent response were communicated to the relevant departments for prompt repair and reinforcement.
Additionally, from May 24 to June 9, the district also conducted safety inspections on vacant houses and buildings within the area. Long-term neglected and aged vacant houses pose significant safety and social risks such as collapse, crime occurrence, and deterioration of the local environment.
Accordingly, the district inspected a total of 64 sites, including 55 vacant houses and 9 vacant buildings, checking ▲whether owners (residents) could be contacted ▲safety risk factors such as vulnerability to crime and fire ▲ground subsidence and roof leaks ▲vulnerability to infection and need for quarantine measures ▲blocking of access and closure of gas and electricity meters ▲presence of cracks, detachment, deterioration, corrosion, or exposure of structural components ▲proximity to passageways and roads, together with external experts (architectural structural engineers).
The safety inspection results are classified into five grades: excellent, good, average, insufficient, and poor, with safe and prompt follow-up actions taken according to the standards. For excellent, good, and average ratings, repair, reinforcement, and maintenance are notified to the managing entity (owner). For insufficient and poor ratings, detailed safety inspections are conducted with support from Seoul City, and if serious defects require continuous management, designation as a Type 3 facility is considered.
