Gyeonggi Fire Department to Reduce Carbon Emissions by 5% at 281 Fire Stations in the Province
The Gyeonggi-do Fire and Disaster Headquarters is promoting three major tasks?energy saving, improvement of working conditions, and use of renewable energy?with the goal of reducing carbon emissions by 5% to overcome the climate crisis.
First, from this month until the end of the year, the headquarters will introduce the 'Fire Station Electric Energy Reduction Target System' at 281 fire stations, including the headquarters, frontline fire stations, and 119 Safety Centers.
Additionally, senior drivers of 1,810 fire vehicles will be designated as 'E-Managers' to discourage long idling, sudden starts, rapid acceleration, and sudden deceleration?referred to as the '3 Prohibitions.' Outstanding 'E-Managers' will be rewarded.
The Fire and Disaster Headquarters will also hold the 'Ten-Ten-Ten' event every month on the 10th day at 10 p.m., turning off the lights for 10 minutes at all 281 fire stations.
Along with this, efforts will be actively made to expand carbon sinks by cultivating plants, conducting paperless meetings (over 60% of meetings) starting with senior officials leading by example, and purchasing low-emission vehicles when acquiring (or leasing) official vehicles.
Furthermore, the 119 Open Power Plant project, which installs self-powered exercise equipment to generate electricity used for fire station signboards and indoor lighting, will be expanded.

Cho Sun-ho, head of the Gyeonggi-do Fire and Disaster Headquarters, stated, "We plan to build new or relocated or expanded fire stations as eco-friendly 'Eco Fire Stations' equipped with solar renewable energy and rainwater circulation facilities. Although the start may be modest, we will participate in the carbon neutrality policy through small daily practices of energy saving."
