Gwanak-gu Conducts Safety Inspections on Unauthorized Buildings and Steep Slopes in Preparation for Heavy Rainfall
Comprehensive Safety Inspections Conducted on 1,557 Existing Unauthorized Buildings; 6 Hazardous Buildings Continuously Monitored via Internet of Things (IoT)
Safety Inspections and Measures Taken on 9 Steep Slopes with Ongoing Surveillance Activities
Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Junhee) has conducted safety inspections on old unauthorized buildings and steep slopes that may become unstable due to heavy rainfall during the monsoon season to prevent safety accidents.
The district carried out safety inspections over three months from February to May, targeting all 1,557 existing unauthorized buildings constructed before the 1980s, in collaboration with specialized safety diagnosis companies.
This is the first time the district has conducted a full survey of existing unauthorized buildings, aiming to prepare for various disasters caused by recent abnormal weather patterns.
As a result of the safety inspections, the district issued repair and reinforcement orders to the owners of 129 buildings that were rated as insufficient or poor in safety evaluation. An emergency contact system has been established among building owners, tenants, and public officials, and regular patrols are being conducted.
Six hazardous buildings selected through this inspection are being continuously monitored using the Internet of Things (IoT). Sensors attached to the buildings check their status in real time and notify district officials and owners immediately if any abnormal signs occur, enabling prompt evacuation and response.
Additionally, safety inspections have been completed on nine steep slopes within the district that could cause damage to residential areas due to falling rocks or landslides during heavy rainfall.
The district, together with external experts, thoroughly checked for cracks or subsidence in rock and soil surfaces, the condition of protective nets against falling rocks, retaining walls, and drainage facilities.
Gwanak-gu plans to continue regular and ongoing surveillance activities.
