South Korean Prime Minister Announces Establishment of 'Drone Operations Command' to Respond to North Korea's Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Provocations

Prime Minister Han Duck-soo on the 20th urged the Ministry of National Defense and the Joint Chiefs of Staff to ensure a smooth launch so that the newly established Drone Operations Command can carry out perfect operations at an early stage.
In his opening remarks at the Cabinet meeting held at the Government Seoul Office on the same day, Prime Minister Han stated, "The government plans to establish the Drone Operations Command to respond effectively and overwhelmingly to provocations such as unmanned aerial vehicles in the future, and today at the Cabinet meeting, we intend to process the legal basis for this."
He pointed out, "At the end of last year, North Korea unlawfully intruded into our airspace using unmanned aerial vehicles," and added, "Recently, they have not stopped provocative acts that threaten peace and security on the Korean Peninsula." He emphasized, "It must be clearly understood that any attempt to shake the Republic of Korea and the international community will never succeed," and said, "The government will maintain a thorough response posture capable of overwhelmingly deterring any provocations from North Korea."

Prime Minister Han then mentioned President Yoon Suk-yeol's attendance at the International Bureau of Expositions (BIE) General Assembly held in Paris, France, and stressed, "The President will personally showcase the differentiated vision and advantages of the Busan World Expo to all member countries." He expressed hope that "this will further spread a favorable atmosphere toward the Busan Expo," and requested, "Cabinet members should actively utilize international networks and negotiation channels to expand and solidify our support base."
