"Join the Yeongju Bicycle Festival" ... Prizes for the First 500 Participants
Yeongju City will hold the '2023 Yeongju Citizens Bicycle Festival' at 8:30 a.m. on the 24th at the Seocheon Riverside Park under Yeongju Bridge.
This event is hosted by the Yeongju City Sports Council and organized by the Yeongju City Bicycle Federation to promote the use of bicycles among citizens.
The approximately 10 km course starts at 10:30 a.m. from the Seocheon Inline Skating Rink (under Yeongju Bridge), crosses Jeokseo Bridge, and returns to the Seocheon Riverside Park, lasting about one hour.
The event is open to all citizens without any separate application process. The first 500 participants will receive raffle tickets, snacks, and commemorative towels. Prizes include bicycles, electronic products, helmets, and other bicycle-related items, which will be awarded to the winners.
Kwon Jeong-sang, president of the Yeongju City Bicycle Federation and organizer of this event, said, "This festival is being held again after four years due to COVID-19," adding, "We hope this will be a meaningful time to help improve citizens' health through cycling and to enjoy riding along the beautiful Seocheon riverside with family and neighbors."
Mayor Park Nam-seo stated, "It is no exaggeration to say that Yeongju is a bicycle paradise," and added, "We will create an eco-friendly bicycle culture through the development of various bicycle-related programs and the improvement of related systems."
Since 2014, Yeongju City has been operating the Yeongju Citizens Bicycle Insurance, providing coverage for injuries sustained by Yeongju citizens in bicycle accidents. In case of diagnosis due to a bicycle accident, consolation money ranging from 100,000 to 300,000 KRW and hospitalization support of 200,000 KRW are provided, with coverage up to 5 million KRW for death and up to 5 million KRW for permanent disability.
