Xi Jinping Urges Chinese and Taiwanese Diaspora to "Understand the Trend and Contribute to Unification"
Chinese President Xi Jinping on the 17th expressed a message hoping that "compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Strait (China and Taiwan) will together grasp the trend of history and contribute to the great cause of national reunification."
According to China's state-run CCTV, President Xi conveyed this message in a congratulatory letter sent to the 15th Straits Forum held in Fujian Province, China. The forum saw a large attendance of representatives from various sectors, including opposition parties from Taiwan.
In the letter, President Xi stated, "We will continue to respect, love, and bring blessings to our Taiwanese compatriots as before."
He added, "We will continue to promote economic and cultural exchanges and cooperation across the Taiwan Strait, deepen integration and development in various fields, jointly promote Chinese culture, and foster solidarity among compatriots on both sides."

President Xi's message is interpreted as emphasizing his determination for Taiwan's reunification. At the same time, it is also seen as reaffirming a 'dual approach' policy that maintains tension with the independence-leaning ruling Democratic Progressive Party while emphasizing peace and cooperation with Taiwan's opposition parties and civil society.
