To Secure the 2030 World Expo in Busan, the 'Council of Provincial Governors' Conducts Promotional Activities in Japan

The Special Committee for Supporting the Bid for the 2030 Busan World Expo (hereinafter referred to as the ‘Expo Bid Special Committee’) of the Council of Governors of Provinces and Cities of the Republic of Korea actively carried out promotional activities for the Expo bid in Japan.
The ‘Expo Bid Special Committee’ was established within the Council of Governors of Provinces and Cities of the Republic of Korea in March at the request of Busan City. It is co-chaired by Busan Mayor Park Hyung-jun and Dongseo University President Jang Je-guk, and consists of deputy heads of 16 cities and provinces as well as six private sector members from various fields.
The "Special Committee for Supporting the Bid for the 2030 Busan World Expo" visited the Japan National Governors' Association on the 12th.
View original imageThis visit marked the first external activity of the ‘Expo Bid Special Committee’. From June 12 to 14, five private members including Chairman Jang Je-guk, Kim Itaek, Director of the Expo MICE Research Center at Pusan National University, Park Jae-yul, Chairman of the Citizens’ Committee for the 2030 Busan World Expo, Oh Sung-geun, Advisor to the Citizens’ Committee for the 2030 Busan World Expo, and Kim Jae-gu, President of the Korean Academic Society of Business Administration, devoted their efforts to fostering a favorable public opinion in Japan for the 2030 World Expo Busan bid.
As their first agenda, the ‘Expo Bid Special Committee’ visited the National Governors’ Association of Japan, which consists of 47 prefectures (Japan’s regional governments), requesting the spread of interest and support for the Busan World Expo bid throughout Japan. They also delivered promotional materials including ‘Boogi’ dolls, Busan’s representative character.
They also visited the Osaka Prefecture Tokyo Office to share information on the successful bid for the 2025 Osaka-Kansai World Expo, and through an interview with an Asahi Shimbun reporter, requested Japan’s active support and friendly cooperation for the 2030 Busan World Expo bid.
They focused on comprehensive promotional activities targeting related organizations in Japan, including delivering promotional materials during a visit to Nagasaki Prefecture, a sister city of Busan.

Co-chairman Jang Je-guk said, “Through visits to major institutions such as the National Governors’ Association of Japan, I felt that Japan has a high level of interest in Busan’s efforts to host the 2030 World Expo,” and emphasized, “We will continue to work as one team between the public and private sectors to ensure that the Japanese government can formally express its support for Busan in the future.”
