Daegu Mayor Hong Joon-pyo raised his voice in response to People Power Party lawmaker Ha Tae-kyung's criticism that he "has no right to talk about running in a hostile district," saying, "Running as an independent in Daegu is more difficult than winning in Gangbuk, Seoul."
On the 14th, Mayor Hong stated through his social media (SNS), "I already have a history of serving as a member of the National Assembly in the hostile Gangbuk area for a long time. I have never been nominated and served as a home district lawmaker in the Yeongnam region," revealing this.
On the previous day, lawmaker Ha criticized Hong's independent run in Daegu on KBS's 'Joo Jin-woo Live,' saying, "During the last election, the party told him to come to Seoul. But he refused until the end and went to his stronghold (Daegu). Although he ran as an independent," implying that Hong has no right to talk about running in a hostile district because he ran as an independent in Daegu.
In response, Mayor Hong said, "Last time, I thought it would be the last and wanted to run in my hometown, but after being chased away from three places, I chose to run as an independent in Daegu Suseong-gu E, where our party's lawmaker did not run," adding, "At that time, the Hwang Kyo-ahn leadership mobilized all party forces, and the Daegu city party under Kwak Sang-do also fought a total war, but I was elected," raising his voice.
He emphasized, "Running as an independent in Daegu is more difficult to win than being nominated and running in the Gangbuk area of Seoul. Moreover, it was a miraculous election where I did not engage in any local activities and went to Daegu to declare my candidacy only 37 days before the election. I have more than enough qualifications to advise the leadership."
He continued, "Starting as a Joo-sa-pa (pro-Juche faction) and shifting like a chameleon according to the political trend with eight different colors, fluttering around in appointed positions or similar roles in the region, such people should now be expelled from our party," and "Chameleons who can change their colors anytime should now be sent back to their place." Although the subject was not explicitly stated, it appears to be an attack on lawmaker Ha based on the context.
