Gochang-gun to Host 'Gochang Bokbunja and Watermelon Festival' from 16th to 18th

Gochang-gun, Jeonbuk Province, announced on the 14th that it will hold the "20th Gochang Bokbunja and Watermelon Festival" from the 16th to the 18th at Seonunsan Provincial Park.

Seonunsan Provincial Park, where the festival themed around Bokbunja and watermelon takes place, is also home to the thousand-year-old Seonunsa Temple, located within a dense forest with magnificent scenery featuring dramatic rock formations.

During the festival, there will be booths where visitors can taste fruit punch made from Gochang watermelons and Gochang Bokbunja, which are renowned nationwide for their top quality. Fun activities such as watermelon eating contests, watermelon carrying races, and a three-obstacle course will be held for people of all ages. Additionally, booths selling high-quality agricultural products will be available on-site.

The highlight of this year’s festival will be a water gun fight called "The War" with a DJ, where tourists can join in a lively water battle. The opening ceremony will also feature congratulatory performances by Chanto Baeki Lee Chan-won and the "Human Recording Player" Jo Myung-seop.

County Governor Shim Deok-seop said, “This Gochang Bokbunja and Watermelon Festival, held in celebration of the 2023 Gochang World Heritage Visit Year, has prepared various programs for tourists. I hope the festival provides an opportunity for people to take a break and refresh their body and mind from daily fatigue.”
