'K-Character Leap'... Yongin City Registers Trademark for Representative Character 'Joayang'
Products made using Joayang, the representative character of Yongin City, which has completed trademark registration with the Korean Intellectual Property Office
View original imageYongin City in Gyeonggi Province recently completed trademark registration with the Korean Intellectual Property Office for the city character 'Joayang.' Accordingly, unauthorized use of Yongin City's representative character Joayang will result in civil and criminal liability.
The trademarks registered by Yongin City this time include 25 cases across 5 types of products, each utilizing 6 Joayang emblems.
With the trademark registration of Joayang, Yongin City will be able to hold third parties civilly and criminally liable for trademark infringement if they use characters (emblems) similar to Joayang on products identical or similar to those using Joayang.
Yongin City registered the copyright for Joayang in August 2019 and designated it as 'Public Nuri Type 4' last June to prohibit indiscriminate use as secondary works or commercial exploitation.

Lee Sang-il, Mayor of Yongin City, stated, "We completed the trademark registration to prevent the indiscriminate use of Joayang, who is loved by 1.1 million Yongin citizens," and added, "We will strive to develop differentiated products and promote Joayang so that it can be loved by all citizens as a representative K-character of Korea."
