555 Export Consultations Scheduled... Also Linked with Seoul International Book Fair on the 14th

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Publication Industry Promotion Agency are hosting the ‘2023 K-Book Copyright Market’ at the InterContinental Seoul COEX in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, until the 13th to support domestic publishers' entry into overseas markets.

This event is organized as a business-to-business (B2B) transaction format, inviting overseas publishers and agencies to Korea to conduct copyright export consultations with domestic publishers. The goal is to achieve actual copyright export contracts for domestic publishers and foster continuous publishing exchange cooperation.

During the event, one-on-one export consultations between domestic and international publishers, IR pitching by domestic publishers, publishing export consulting programs, and networking receptions among participants will be held. The Publication Industry Promotion Agency supports discovering and inviting overseas buyers, matching consultations based on domestic and international demand surveys, translating introduction materials of participating companies, and providing dedicated interpretation services.

The agency provides detailed information about overseas participants to domestic publishers in advance to help prepare consultation strategies. Additionally, domestic publishers’ book introduction materials are uploaded to the English online publishing export platform ‘K-Book’ for overseas publishers to review beforehand. On-site interpretation for consultations is also supported.

Buyers from 50 companies across 18 countries, including Asian regions such as Taiwan and Vietnam, as well as European and North American regions like Norway, Italy, and Canada, will visit Korea. Notable participating publishing companies include Vietnam Women's Publishing House, Indonesia’s PT Gramedia Pustaka Utama, France’s Albin Michel, Spain’s Penguin Random House Grupo Editorial, and Mexico’s Fondo de Cultura Econ?mica. Domestically, 60 companies including Munhakdongne, Changbi, Darakwon Co., Ltd., and Dasan Books Co., Ltd. will participate, conducting a total of 555 export consultations with overseas participants over two days.

A publishing export consulting program will also be operated. Four export experts specializing in Greater China, Asia, North America, and Europe will be stationed at the venue to provide consultations addressing practical export questions or difficulties for domestic publishers.

After the two-day event, overseas participants will attend the Seoul International Book Fair, opening on the 14th, to continue engagements with domestic publishing content. They will also consult with domestic publishing companies registered as copyright experts through the Copyright Center.

An official from the Publication Industry Promotion Agency stated, “We plan to actively support the overseas expansion of domestic publishing content by discovering buyers from various countries and providing follow-up consultation support to create new business opportunities.”
