Kishida, Zelensky Phone Talk "6.5 Billion Won Support for Dam Collapse"
Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida held a phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on the afternoon of the 9th and decided to provide emergency aid worth 5 million dollars (approximately 6.5 billion won).
According to Kyodo News, Chief Cabinet Secretary Hirokazu Matsuno stated at a regular press conference that during the call, Prime Minister Kishida expressed condolences and solidarity to the Ukrainian people regarding the collapse of the Kakhovka Dam in southern Kherson Oblast, Ukraine. Earlier, the collapse of the Kakhovka Dam, which is 6.8 times the size of South Korea's Chungju Lake, caused villages in the area to be submerged.
Prime Minister Kishida plans to promptly provide 5 million dollars in emergency humanitarian aid through international organizations to residents affected by the flooding caused by the dam collapse.
