On the 9th, Gyeonggi Governor Kim Dong-yeon attended the inauguration ceremony of the 1st Youth Arts Planning Group held at the Gyeonggi Art Center and spent time communicating with young artists in the province.
The Gyeonggi Youth Arts Planning Group is an organization where young artists directly participate in planning to discover and propose policies aimed at improving the rights and opportunities of young artists.
About 80 members will be active this year across three divisions: performing arts, policy research, and public relations.
The first project of the Gyeonggi Youth Arts Planning Group is the 'Gyeonggi Youth Arts Festival' to be held in October this year by Gyeonggi Province. The province supports the Youth Arts Planning Group to plan and carry out all aspects of the festival.
At the inauguration ceremony, over 60 young artists and university students attended, reading the 'Youth Arts Opportunity Declaration' to announce the start and commitment of the Gyeonggi Youth Arts Planning Group. They also engaged in a free conversation with Governor Kim Dong-yeon about Gyeonggi's youth art policies using a real-time open chat room.
Governor Kim Dong-yeon said, "I want to create a stage where young people can dream and do what they can and want to do. If young people feel the fulfillment and happiness of creating value in our society through their true self-realization and activities, it is also a great joy for Gyeonggi Province to support that. I support your dreams."
He added, "Our lives themselves are art, and if through self-realization you can give value and happiness to others, wouldn’t that be art in a narrow sense? We are trying to create opportunity income for artists and provide various supports to solve the difficulties faced by young artists, but what I most hope for is that you are currently enjoying and happy."
Governor Kim recently met with 14 executives of the Korea Federation of Artistic and Cultural Organizations and promised to finalize the artist opportunity income quickly and implement it as the first in the nation.
Artist opportunity income is an income paid annually at 1.5 million KRW to artists residing in Gyeonggi Province who have valid proof of artistic activity and whose personal income is below 120% of the median income. On March 27, consultations with the Ministry of Health and Welfare on establishing the social security system were completed, and on April 26, the 'Gyeonggi Province Artist Opportunity Income Payment Ordinance (draft)' was announced for legislative notice.
