An Octogenarian Jaywalking on an 8-Lane Road Dies After Being Hit by an SUV
An octogenarian who was jaywalking across an 8-lane road was hit and killed by a moving vehicle.
The Gwangju Nambu Police Station announced on the 7th that they have booked and are investigating B (33) on charges of causing death by hitting an 80-year-old man, A, who was jaywalking, with the vehicle he was driving (violation of the Special Act on Traffic Accident Handling).
B is accused of hitting and killing A, who was jaywalking near Baegun Intersection in Juwol-dong, Nam-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, on the 8-lane road at around 8:30 p.m. the previous day.
A was transported to a nearby hospital by the dispatched fire department but ultimately died. It was reported that A was crossing over the center line while jaywalking when the accident occurred.
According to the police investigation, B was neither under the influence of alcohol nor driving without a license, and reportedly stated, "I could not see A because it was dark."

The police are investigating the exact circumstances of the accident, including whether B was speeding, through analysis of CCTV footage and the vehicle’s black box.
