Opening Ceremony of Gwangju Dong-gu 'Jisandong~Chosendae Bypass Road'
Dong-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, will hold an opening ceremony for the ‘Jisandong~Chosun University Bypass Road Construction Project’ in front of the College of Education at Chosun University on the 9th.
The ‘Jisandong~Chosun University Bypass Road Construction’ is a project to build a two-lane road with a total length of 545m and a width of 10m, passing through the campus of Chosun University from Jisandong, with a project cost of 4.26 billion KRW. Construction began in April last year and was completed last month, about one year later.
Since 2021, Dong-gu has held several working-level consultations with Chosun University and signed a business agreement in March of the same year to alleviate vehicle congestion on Jiho-ro, the main gateway road of Jisandong, and to improve disaster safety in flood-affected areas during heavy rains every year.
Through this, Dong-gu received permission for free use of the land within Chosun University’s campus and secured 50% investment of the total project cost, which gave momentum to the project’s progress.
In addition, to resolve issues related to road construction sites and budget procurement, Dong-gu actively made recommendations to members of the National Assembly, city councilors, and Gwangju Metropolitan City. During the construction process, resident briefings were held regularly to gather active feedback and ensure a safe road environment, contributing to the realization of a ‘public-private-academic win-win model.’
With this opening, Dong-gu expects improved urban accessibility through the Chosun University campus to contribute to the revitalization of the National Asian Culture Complex, Chungjang-ro, and Jisan Amusement Park commercial areas.
