China Reviews NATO Liaison Office Installation in Japan
"Eastward Expansion from Asia-Pacific, Destabilizing Regional Security"
China has expressed opposition to Japan's consideration of establishing a North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) liaison office in Tokyo.
According to Japanese media, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida is coordinating plans to attend the NATO summit scheduled to be held in Lithuania this July. It is reported that the opening of NATO's first liaison office in Asia, located in Tokyo, will be discussed at the summit.
Mao Ning, spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, emphasized during a briefing on the 26th that "NATO's eastward expansion into the Asia-Pacific region will inevitably undermine regional peace and stability."
Spokesperson Mao stated, "Countries and peoples in the region are highly vigilant about this, and we firmly oppose any words or actions that involve military groups to incite division and confrontation."
