Each head of the institutions conducted a final inspection of the ‘safety’ aspects, such as personnel deployment for the imminent festival, and shared relevant information.
During the festival period, a total of about 1,600 safety management personnel, including around 1,000 on the day of the fireworks show on the 27th, will be deployed on-site after undergoing preliminary safety management training to handle traffic control, parking management, emergency support, and marine safety management.
On the 27th, the main event day of the International Fireworks Show, related organization personnel along with private support personnel such as disaster safety security officers will be stationed near the festival site. Additional personnel, including four units of the South Police Station’s riot police and the local youth association, will be deployed from 5:30 PM, when the crowd peaks, until the event ends.
Earlier, Pohang City completed proactive safety measures to prevent accidents, including installing chairs and fences in front of the stage for crowd density control, broadcasting safety videos using on-site LEDs, and providing hazard warnings through event site CCTV and on-site DJ police.
On the 27th, about 350 safety management personnel will be deployed to traffic control sections including Songnim Elementary School intersection to Pohang Canal Hall, Hyungsan intersection to Pohang Canal three-way intersection, and 10 temporary parking lots.
About 200 police officers, South Model Drivers Association members, Saemaul Volunteer Association members, and professional agency personnel will work to ensure smooth vehicle traffic flow.
The Pohang South Fire Station will establish and operate a fire safety support headquarters, deploy two ambulances and 20 firefighting equipment units, and on the 27th, volunteer firefighters carrying emergency fire extinguishers will patrol throughout the event site to prevent fires.
Additionally, the Pohang North Fire Station will deploy personnel to major tourist spots attracting crowds outside the event sites, such as Yeongildae and Space Walk, to strengthen emergency management.
The Pohang Maritime Police will provide prior guidance and entry control to related fishing cooperatives to prevent various vessels from entering or leaving the event site. In particular, near the slipway where water leisure equipment operates, the Pohang Maritime Police substation plans to conduct frequent patrols and deploy boats during the festival period to prevent maritime safety accidents.
The Nam-gu Health Center will operate a medical situation room and deploy a total of nine ambulances (three per day) and about 20 emergency personnel at the festival site to prepare for rapid emergency response. The Pohang Pharmaceutical Association will operate free pharmacies to provide safety over-the-counter medicines free of charge.
