However, due to aging facilities and the impact of COVID-19, the utilization of the space decreased. Accordingly, the Arts Council established a new operational plan to improve facility maintenance, accessibility, and usability.
The newly reopened 'Artist's House' is designed to live up to its name, with a studio for young artists on the first floor and a lounge for artists on the second floor.
The first floor is a space dedicated to those selected for the Arts Council’s representative young artist support programs, 'Korean Arts Creation Academy' and 'First Support for Young Artists'.
The 'Arko Young Artist Lab,' a workspace for young artists, is a space for those selected for the Arts Council’s support projects, 'Korean Arts Creation Academy' and 'First Support for Young Artists'.
Users can freely use the shared workspace equipped with personal creative workstations and video equipment, and small group meetings and networking programs necessary for the creative process are held throughout the year.
The second floor serves as a space for rest and communication for artists and the general public, and a pop-up store selling goods or content produced by young artists is frequently held.
Jung Byung-guk, chairman of the Arts Council, plans to hold the 'Arko Expresso' program every Monday starting June 5, where he will personally meet artists. It is a place for communication while serving coffee brewed by Chairman Jung himself.
Chairman Jung said, "We have worked to improve the space so that young artists, artists at various stages, and citizens who love art can use it without inconvenience," and added, "We will develop this place into a landmark in the cultural and artistic community."
