Suwon City Prepares Disaster Measures for Heavy Rain, Typhoons, and Heatwaves
The city of Suwon in Gyeonggi Province has established a plan to prepare for and respond to natural disasters (heavy rain, typhoons, heatwaves) this summer with the goal of "zero human casualties."
To prepare for heavy rain and typhoons, Suwon City announced on the 26th that it will select and implement four key tasks: ▲establishing a rapid emergency response system ▲identifying, inspecting, and managing safety in areas at risk of human casualties ▲maintaining and test-operating flood control facilities ▲establishing relief and damage recovery systems.
Additionally, a heatwave task force team will be operated with the goal of "strengthening heatwave response capabilities to create a safe city Suwon."
Furthermore, to establish a rapid emergency response system, the "Suwon City Disaster Safety Countermeasures Headquarters," composed of 13 working groups, has been operating since the 15th and will continue until October 15.
Earlier, from March to April, Suwon City conducted preliminary inspections of six high-risk areas prone to human casualties and preventive facilities.
Mayor Lee Jae-jun of Suwon also visited the frequently flooded Hwasan Underpass on March 27.
Moreover, in March and May, after maintaining six drainage pump stations within the city, test operations were completed, disaster management resources were secured, and an emergency relief and support system was established.
Suwon City also established a plan this year to install and support flood prevention devices. Applications for the "Flood Prevention Device Installation Support Project" will be accepted for underground parking lots in apartment complexes, small commercial buildings, and detached houses, and by the end of June, installation support will be provided for water barriers, backflow prevention facilities, and outdoor submersible pumps.
