'Seocho Direct Trade Big Market' Opens
Held on 25-26 at District Office Plaza and Music Walkway
District Chief Jeon Seongsu: "Hope to Expand Agricultural Product Sales Channels and Ease Residents' Burdens for Mutual Growth"
Seocho-gu (Mayor Jeon Seong-su) will hold the lively music and fun-filled event, ‘Seocho Direct Transaction Market,’ for two days from the 25th to the 26th at the district office plaza and the nearby Music Walkway.
On this day, to thank the residents for their support and add excitement to the market, a lucky roulette event called ‘Thank You Day (DAY)’ will be held starting at 12:30 PM.
At the market, customers who purchase goods worth more than 30,000 KRW and present their receipts can spin the roulette to win prizes (agricultural and marine products and local specialties). The prizes were sponsored by participating farms as a token of gratitude to Seocho-gu for opening direct sales channels.
The operating hours are from 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM.
The main items for sale include fresh local specialties such as ▲Mosip Leaf Jeotgal from Seocheon-gun ▲Hangwa and apples from Yesan-gun ▲Korean beef and pork from Cheongyang-gun ▲Dangjin Bugak ▲Fish from Pohang-si ▲Pears and Sikhye from Naju-si ▲Honey from Sancheong-gun, as well as ▲Shiitake mushrooms from Hoengseong-gun ▲Kimchi varieties from Goesan-gun ▲Gangjeong and grains from Nam Seoul Nonghyup ▲Dried seafood and fruits from Yeongdong Nonghyup ▲Fresh fruits and rice cakes from Maljukgeori Shopping Street.
Additionally, to create a lively market atmosphere with exciting songs and music, the ‘Kkotjari Concert’ was also held at the district office plaza on the 25th. The performance featured K.Fly, a fusion gugak group combining traditional Korean instruments with Western instruments.
The direct transaction market, which was suspended in 2020 due to COVID-19 and reopened last August, has expanded consumer choices by involving not only sister cities but also local agricultural cooperatives such as Nam Seoul Nonghyup and Yeongdong Nonghyup, as well as the first alley-type shopping street, Maljukgeori Shopping Street.
In particular, unlike before when it was held once on the fourth Thursday and Friday of each month, since last year it has been held twice a month on the second and fourth Thursday and Friday, making it the only district in Seoul to do so. About 20 organizations from sister cities and over 50 farms participate here, selling more than 200 items including fresh vegetables, fish, livestock products, mushrooms, honey, jeotgal, and traditional doenjang, receiving great responses from residents.

Mayor Jeon Seong-su said, “I hope this market becomes a win-win place where residents can buy high-quality local agricultural products at reasonable prices and farmers can increase their income without distribution margins. We will continue to encourage many residents to use the market to revitalize struggling farms and the local economy and to promote a harmonious urban-rural coexistence.”
