Sacheon City Launches Full-Scale Release Project of Over 3.5 Million Aquatic Seedlings
Sacheon Coastal Waters and Inland Fisheries Seed
Sacheon City in Gyeongnam Province will release approximately 3.5 million marine seedlings of 11 species, including rockfish and stonefish, into the coastal waters and inland waters of Sacheon from the 26th through November, with a total budget of 600 million KRW.
This release of marine seedlings has been prepared to revitalize the fisheries industry, which is in decline due to the weakening of the fishing production base caused by the decrease in marine resources, and to promote income increase for fishermen through the enhancement of marine resources.
In particular, the city selected species suitable for the coastal waters, including artificial reef facility areas such as the Sea Ranch project sites, and our city’s waters, based on opinions collected from fishermen and local residents regarding the release areas and species of marine seedlings.
The city is encouraging voluntary management of marine resources, such as preventing illegal fishing and re-releasing captured seedlings, to maximize the effect of the marine seedling release.
