What Jeong Eui-sun Thinks of a Godsaeng Life... "A Life Focused on One's Own Values" (Comprehensive)
"There is no right answer to Godsaeng. It depends on the values you want. Focusing on that is what Godsaeng is all about."
On the 25th, Chung Eui-sun, Chairman of Hyundai Motor Group, attended the Korean version of lunch with Buffett, "Godsaeng One Meal," planned as the first project for public communication by the Federation of Korean Industries (FKI), and spoke about 'Godsaeng' in this way. Godsaeng is a new term used by the MZ generation meaning a life lived diligently and systematically, serving as a role model to others.
The 30 MZ generation members who promised to spread positive social influence met with Chairman Chung, Park Jae-wook, CEO of Socar, and Noh Hong-chul, CEO of Noh Hong-chul Genius Co., to share and communicate about ‘Godsaeng for Dreams (God生) and Tenacity (不屈, Tenacity).’
The 30 MZ generation participants were selected from applicants based on the creativity, feasibility, and impact of their talent donation plans. This was to spread small but positive influences in our society through talent donation for society rather than money (auction). Participants came from diverse backgrounds including university students, job seekers, freelancers, startup CEOs, self-employed individuals, and early-career workers.
The first part of the event featured Chairman Chung, CEO Park, and CEO Noh exchanging questions and answers with the host. They talked about their impressions of meeting the MZ generation, reasons for participating, their usual Godsaeng routines, current dreams and plans, recent Godsaeng practices, and methods for managing mental health.
When asked about his typical day, Chairman Chung said, "I usually go to bed around 9:30 and wake up around 5, so I tend to sleep early and wake up early." He added, "I exercise three to four times a day, eat a little breakfast, but make sure to have all three meals." Chairman Chung also said, "My dream is to make good cars so that you can achieve great things you want."
CEO Park said, "My dream is to improve the quality of life for members of society," and added, "That’s why I thought starting a business was appropriate, so I have been running a company through entrepreneurship until now." CEO Noh said he wants to prove that it is possible to generate income while doing what he wants (playing). He said, "I eat ice cream as soon as I open my eyes, rest enough, and go out to play every day." Emphasizing "I play every day," he added, "But after playing, I review what I did. When I save money, I go on overseas trips."
In the second part of the event, the leaders and 10 participants from each group shared honest conversations while eating hamburgers. The hamburgers were specially ordered from the restaurant "Morning of the World," located on the 50th floor of the FKI building.
One participant who attended Godsaeng One Meal said, "I got a glimpse of Chairman Chung’s Godsaeng, which I usually cannot see. I gained valuable insights at the most important time to shape my life, which greatly helped me choose my career path." They also added about the event’s purpose of donating talents instead of money, "I feel excited and proud thinking that I can make a small but positive impact on society."
Meanwhile, Lee Woong-yeol, Honorary Chairman of Kolon, made a surprise visit to the ‘Godsaeng One Meal’ event to show support. Lee Sang-yoon, Head of CSR, said about the significance of this event, "It must have been a precious experience and memory for the youth," and added, "I hope the advice received from the leaders today becomes a turning point in their lives."
