Korea Financial Investment Association Holds 2023 ICSA Annual General Meeting
The Korea Financial Investment Association announced on the 25th that it will host the ICSA (International Council of Securities Associations) Annual General Meeting and International Conference in Seoul from the 18th to the 20th of next month.
ICSA is an international organization established in 1988 with the purpose of jointly developing policies, proposing policies to international supervisory bodies, and sharing information among member countries for the development of international capital markets. It consists of a total of 20 institutions, including securities and capital market associations from both developed and emerging countries.
The ICSA Annual General Meeting, held sequentially by continent each year, is known as a venue to share major issues and trends in the international capital market and to facilitate information exchange among members.
The Korea Financial Investment Association has experience hosting the ICSA Annual General Meeting during the global financial crises in 1997 and 2008, successfully conducting events that provided global insights into crisis responses within the domestic financial investment industry.
This year’s Annual General Meeting has been actively promoted to strengthen global partnerships of domestic financial investment companies, support overseas expansion, and grasp global innovation trends at a time when the financial investment industry faces the critical juncture of the pandemic and technological innovation.
The first and second days of the Annual General Meeting will be sessions exclusively for ICSA members, including administrative matters. On the third day, June 20th, an international conference themed "The Future of the Financial Industry" will be held for association members and domestic market participants.
At the conference, invited domestic and international experts will present and discuss various topics such as the digital and tech revolution, virtual asset markets, successful venture capital supply systems in advanced global markets, diversification trends in trading platforms (ATS, internal order execution, STO, etc.), and trends in the global asset management market centered on lifetime income and retirement pensions. These topics were carefully selected through industry feedback during the event planning stage.
The conference will feature congratulatory remarks from Baek Hye-ryun, Chair of the Political Affairs Committee; Kim So-young, Vice Chair of the Financial Services Commission; Lee Bok-hyun, Governor of the Financial Supervisory Service; and Oh Se-hoon, Mayor of Seoul. Presenters include Peter Matheson, Executive Director of the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association (SIFMA) of the United States; Urban Funered, Chairman of the Swedish Securities Market Association (SSMA); Stephanie Hubert, Chair of the French Association of Financial Markets Professionals (AMAFI); and Michael Sterzenbach, Secretary General of the German Securities Industry Association (bwf).
Additionally, distinguished international speakers such as Peter Stewart, Senior Consultant at Mercer; Firas Hadj-Taieb, Global Head of Quant Trading Strategy at Nomura; Jonathan Bock, Head of BDC at Blackstone; and Jonathan Digges, CIO of Octopus Investments, a UK alternative asset manager, have been invited to deliver various lectures. To provide more practical support to member companies, one-on-one meetings between these speakers and industry practitioners will also be held separately.
