DeSantis Officially Announces US Presidential Run with Musk on the 24th
Officially Announces Republican Primary Candidacy
Hosts Talk Show with Musk via Twitter Spaces
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, considered a leading contender for the Republican nomination in the upcoming U.S. presidential election, will announce his candidacy on the 24th (local time) alongside Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla.
Governor DeSantis will hold a joint event at 6 p.m. Eastern Time on the same day via Twitter's voice chat platform, Spaces, to officially declare his run in the party primary. During the event, CEO Musk will engage in a talk show-style conversation with Governor DeSantis. DeSantis plans to release his official campaign video and complete his candidate registration in line with the event. Starting from the 29th, he will embark on a full-scale primary campaign tour through key battleground states.
Governor DeSantis, once dubbed the "Little Trump" for his strong support of former President Donald Trump's policies, is a staunch conservative. However, after winning re-election in the recent midterm elections and being mentioned as a leading Republican presidential candidate, he has distanced himself from former President Trump.
DeSantis emphasizes that, if elected president, he could serve up to eight years in office, distinguishing himself from Trump, whose term is constitutionally limited to four years after serving one term. DeSantis has also pledged to firmly maintain a conservative-leaning structure in the federal Supreme Court during his tenure.
By joining forces with CEO Musk, Governor DeSantis has secured a significant ally in the Republican primary race. NBC reported, "With CEO Musk having 140 million Twitter followers, he wields enormous influence within the conservative camp," adding that DeSantis's joint announcement with Musk will be a major boost in garnering support.
CEO Musk has expressed support for Governor DeSantis several times. In November last year, via social media platform Twitter, he stated, "I hope the 2024 presidency goes to a more discerning and moderate figure. I also hoped the Biden administration would be like that, but so far, it has been nothing but disappointment," indicating his leaning toward DeSantis.
However, when DeSantis's presidential bid was officially announced, Musk took a more ambiguous stance. At the Wall Street Journal CEO Summit that day, he said, "I do not plan to endorse any specific candidate," adding, "I am simply interested in using Twitter as a kind of public forum."

Despite Musk's remarks, NBC reported that his presence at DeSantis's presidential announcement signifies his involvement in the election. NBC further stated, "According to political insiders, DeSantis's close aides perceive Musk's attendance as a clear sign of support."
