Sangcheong County Governor Lee Seunghwa Holds Meeting with Traditional Herbal Medicine Organizations

Communication Through Listening to Current Issues and Difficulties
Lee Seunghwa, the governor of Sancheong County, engaged in on-site communication by holding a meeting with medicinal herb farmers.
On the 23rd, Sancheong County held a meeting with organizations related to the cultivation, processing, and sales of traditional medicinal herbs in the county government’s administrative meeting room.
The meeting was attended by about 10 members from four organizations, including Governor Lee Seunghwa, the Sancheong County Medicinal Herb Research Association, the Sancheong County Medicinal Herb Interpretation Society, the Sancheong Traditional Medicinal Herb Council, and the Sancheong Medicinal Herb Market Prosperity Association.

View original imageDuring the meeting, various opinions were exchanged regarding current issues and challenges in the medicinal herb agriculture sector.
In particular, in-depth discussions were held on the subsidy payment ratio for herb purchases and income preservation for herb farmers through price increases.
Sancheong County plans to incorporate the diverse opinions gathered from this meeting into its medicinal herb industry policies.
Governor Lee stated, “The medicinal herb industry is facing difficulties due to sluggish consumption of medicinal crops, aging farmers, and rising prices of agricultural materials. Despite these challenges, Sancheong medicinal herbs are reliable and of high quality, giving them competitiveness.”
He added, “Ahead of the 2023 Sancheong World Traditional Medicine Expo, we will spare no administrative support, including budget, to foster the medicinal herb industry so that this crisis can turn into an opportunity.”
Sancheong County supports farmers through projects such as the Traditional Medicinal Herb Stable Production Support Project, the Strategic Herb Stable Production Support Project, the Baekdoraji Regional Specialized Crop Complex Development Project, and the Traditional Medicinal Herb Standard Packaging Material Support Project.

Additionally, to cultivate specialized personnel for herb cultivation, the county conducts annual specialized technical training for herb cultivation and promotes various projects to establish a production base for traditional medicinal herbs and foster the herb industry.
