Governor Kim emphasized this during his attendance at the opening ceremony of the Space System Technology Research Institute held at the Korea Aerospace University Aerospace Center in Goyang City on the 22nd.
Governor Kim said, "I believe the establishment of the Space System Technology Research Institute can play an important role in the development blueprint I am currently promoting for northern Gyeonggi. We will look for ways to collaborate. Beyond simple workforce training, this will create a major momentum for the development of Goyang and the northern region," expressing his expectations.
He added, "I think the research institute and Korea Aerospace University can join hands with Gyeonggi Province to create a synergy effect," and "We will also unite with Goyang City to pool our efforts for the advancement of Korea Aerospace University and the aerospace sector."
Referring to the 'Moonshot Project,' the lunar probe launch project initiated by U.S. President Kennedy, he said, "Today, the Moonshot Project has become a common noun for achieving nearly impossible or difficult tasks through innovation and creativity in any field. There are many Moonshot Projects we must unite for, such as low birth rates, climate change response, democracy, and political reform. Improving residents' quality of life, developing Gyeonggi Province, and my constant goal of transforming Gyeonggi to change Korea are, in my view, Moonshot Projects we must undertake together."
The Space System Technology Research Institute at Korea Aerospace University is an affiliated research institute established within the engineering college building to concentrate the university’s own space research and development capabilities.
The institute operates in an organically collaborative manner, with faculty from four departments?the Department of Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering, the Department of Smart Drone Engineering, the Department of AI Autonomous Driving Systems Engineering, and the Department of Artificial Intelligence?each leading research teams in systems and main body, machinery and materials, electrical and electronics, and AI and software (AI & SW), respectively.
Professor Oh Hyun-woong, a leading scholar in satellite payload fields from the Department of Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering, serves as the director, with eight professors and twenty researchers participating.
