Busan City, together with the Busan Regional Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Office (Director Yoon Jong-ho) and Busan Port Authority (President Kang Jun-seok), will hold the “16th Busan Port Festival” for two days from the 27th to the 28th at the Busan Port International Passenger Terminal, Bukhang Waterfront Park, and Yeongdo Amir Park.
The city has designated May as “2023 Busan Maritime Month” to highlight Busan’s symbolism as a global maritime city and to operate various events that raise citizens’ interest in the ocean. The “Busan Port Festival” held this time marks the 16th edition of Korea’s representative port festival.
This year’s festival features ▲“Global Port-Park,” a space utilizing the symbol of Busan Port logistics, the ‘container,’ where visitors can experience diverse content from various countries ▲“Sea-Thru Concert,” a unique water performance on pontoon boats along the waterways of Bukhang Waterfront Park ▲“Boat Tour,” where participants can experience duck, moon, and donut boats ▲and a large-scale program debuting a “Drone Light Show & Fireworks Show” with 1,000 drones.
A pontoon boat refers to a small Western-style boat propelled by rowing or a motor.
In particular, the main program “Global Port-Park” consists of ▲“German Beer Pavilion,” bringing the atmosphere of Germany’s beer festival ▲“India Pavilion,” where visitors can experience traditional Hatha Yoga ▲“China Pavilion,” showcasing China’s unique food culture ▲and “Vietnam Pavilion,” offering traditional Vietnamese coffee, creating a mini expo that serves as a small world tour pleasing both the eyes and palate.
The opening ceremony of this festival, themed “Pre-EXPO for the 2030 Busan World Expo Bid,” will be held at 2 p.m. on May 27 at the Busan Port International Passenger Terminal. It will be conducted as a tour-style opening event that includes the unveiling of the theme pavilion “Busan Port Pavilion” and a tour of the “Global Port-Park” venue.
▲At the “Busan Port Pavilion,” visitors can enjoy the history of Busan Port from its opening in 1876 to 2030 at a glance through the media exhibition “Timeline Slide.”
Busan Port, which played a significant role in Korea’s transition from a recipient to a donor country in Official Development Assistance (ODA), will also carry out a donation project. Items donated by Busan citizens will be collected and delivered to schools in Sri Lanka in cooperation with the international relief organization “Kointree.”
Additionally, at Yeongdo Amir Park, programs such as ▲public viewing of Navy and Coast Guard vessels ▲“Busan Port Tour,” which includes boarding the port guide ship “Saenuri” and the Jagalchi Cruise ▲and “Mission Stamp Tour,” where participants visit the Yeongdo Marine Cluster to complete missions, are prepared. Various other events, including a children’s essay and drawing contest themed on love for the sea and a children’s boat model-making experience, will also take place.
