Yoon, Korea-Ukraine Summit Today... 'Exchange Views on Support Measures'
Presidential Office "Accepts Meeting at Zelensky's Request"
President Yoon Suk-yeol will hold a Korea-Ukraine summit with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on the last day of the Group of Seven (G7) summit on the 21st.
An official from the presidential office stated at the press center set up in a hotel in Hiroshima on the day, "We accepted the request to hold a summit with President Zelenskyy."
Earlier, President Zelenskyy arrived in Hiroshima on the afternoon of the previous day by a French government plane to attend the G7 summit.
This will be the first time President Yoon meets President Zelenskyy. The two leaders are expected to exchange views for about 30 minutes on key issues, including ways to support Ukraine.
Regarding the possibility of changing the principle that South Korea will not provide weapons support to Ukraine, a presidential office official said, "We need to consider the environment and constraints that our country can provide," adding, "Whatever the other party says tomorrow, we will listen gladly, and what we can do will be determined according to our own judgment and principles."
He continued, "Although Korea's role has been humanitarian aid, it includes comprehensive support," explaining, "It means not only helping the conduct of the war in Ukraine but also playing a leading role in all processes such as post-war handling and the application of international law."
