This year’s festival, themed ‘A Festival Led by Residents,’ saw expanded participation from Jungnang-gu residents, whose vibrant involvement shone from the very start of the event.
A total of about 1,000 residents marched along a 1.5 km route from the Rose Flower Street to key festival points, announcing the start of the ‘Grand Rose Festival.’ For the new rose variety, residents contributed various ideas and named it ‘Mangwoo Rose,’ a name unique to Jungnang-gu. ‘Mangwoo Rose’ means ‘the rose that forgets worries.’
Moreover, performances by local artists known as Jungnang Artists are taking place throughout the festival at various locations, and residents are also participating in running flea markets and dessert & cafe booths.
Ryu Kyung-gi, Mayor of Jungnang-gu, said, “Today, as the Seoul Rose Festival officially began, despite the hot weather, the energetic and splendid parade and performances by the residents made the festival even more enjoyable. I thank all the residents who participated,” adding, “I ask for continued interest in the 2023 Seoul Rose Festival, which Jungnang-gu residents are creating together, until the very end.”
At the festival, the ‘Rose Exhibition Hall,’ which showcases everything about roses?from the types and history of Korean roses to various roses worldwide, wild roses, and florists’ rose artworks?offered visitors a colorful array of sights. The ‘Rose Concert,’ featuring popular singers Jang Yoon-jung and Kim Na-hee, also heated up the festival atmosphere.
