Gwangjin-gu ‘K-MMM23 Blood Pressure Measurement Campaign’
Held for 2 hours in front of Gwangjin-gu Office main gate on May 17, World Hypertension Day
Includes education and practice on self blood pressure measurement, guidance on normal blood pressure levels and cardiovascular and cerebrovascular disease management
Raises awareness of hypertension risks and importance of blood pressure management, prevents cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases through early detection
Gwangjin-gu (Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) conducted the ‘K-MMM23 Blood Pressure Measurement Campaign’ on May 17 in observance of World Hypertension Day.
According to the Korean Society of Hypertension in 2022, an estimated 12.6 million people in South Korea have hypertension, with one in three adults affected. Hypertension is a risk factor for cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, which rank as the second and fourth leading causes of death in the country, requiring significant attention.
Accordingly, the Gwangjin-gu Public Health Center set up a ‘K-MMM23 Blood Pressure Measurement Campaign’ booth to raise awareness of the risks of hypertension and the importance of blood pressure management. The campaign encourages blood pressure measurement and aims to prevent cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases by early detection, timely treatment, and systematic management of hypertension.
The ‘K-MMM23 Blood Pressure Measurement Campaign’ is a global public blood pressure measurement campaign held in May to commemorate Blood Pressure Measurement Month. The Gwangjin-gu Public Health Center conducted the campaign for two hours during lunchtime, a period of high foot traffic, along the ginkgo tree-lined path in front of the main gate of Gwangjin-gu Office.
The campaign activities included ▲education and practice on self blood pressure measurement ▲guidance on normal blood pressure and blood sugar levels ▲individual health consultations for those with abnormal measurement results ▲health pledge declarations ▲promotion of early symptoms and coping methods for cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases.
A resident who participated in the campaign said, “It was good to learn in detail about blood pressure measurement methods, which I only vaguely knew before,” and added, “My blood pressure was a bit high today, so I will pay more attention and strive to live a healthy life.”
