LH to Establish 'Idolbom Facilities Cluster' in Uijeongbu Gosan District
Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH) announced on the 17th that it will promote a pilot project for an ‘Idolbom Facilities Cluster’ in the Uijeongbu Gosan District to overcome low birth rates.
The Idolbom Facilities Cluster is a hub space that gathers individually operated childcare-related facilities at the center of the living area and provides high-quality one-stop care services in one place by equipping children-only cultural facilities and medical services.
On the 17th, LH signed the "Uijeongbu Gosan District Childcare Facility Cluster Basic Agreement" with Uijeongbu City. The pilot project will be conducted in the Uijeongbu Gosan District, where there is immediately available land within the district and high demand for childcare. In particular, the Uijeongbu Gosan District has many dual-income couples in their 30s and 40s, and many residents face difficulties in childcare due to long-distance commuting and lack of childcare facilities.
Accordingly, based on the research results of the Land and Housing Research Institute (LHRI), LH proposed facilities such as daycare centers, community care centers, hourly childcare centers, indoor playgrounds, children’s libraries, restaurants, and kids workshops within the Idolbom Facilities Cluster.
In the future, the specific types and scale of facilities and services will be decided through surveys on care demand and resident preferences within the district and consultations with Uijeongbu City.
LH plans to hold a design competition in the second half of this year, start construction next year, and begin operating the Idolbom Facilities Cluster in 2026.
Meanwhile, on the same day, LH met with residents of the Uijeongbu Gosan District at the Uijeongbu City auditorium to listen to inconveniences and suggestions related to local childcare facilities and signed the ‘Uijeongbu Gosan District Idolbom Facilities Cluster Basic Agreement’ with Uijeongbu City.
The agreement ceremony was attended by Won Hee-ryong, Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport; Lee Han-jun, LH President; and Kim Dong-geun, Mayor of Uijeongbu City. Through the agreement, the two organizations will actively cooperate in the necessary permits and approvals, facility establishment, and operation of the project.
