Incheon City to Upgrade Public Wi-Fi on City and Express Buses from LTE to 5G... 2,467 Units to Be Replaced by Year-End
Public Wi-Fi on city buses in Incheon has been upgraded to 5G, resulting in faster communication speeds for users.
On the 17th, Incheon City announced that it has completed the second phase of a project to fully replace LTE-level public Wi-Fi installed on city, metropolitan, and circular buses with 5G.
The 5G upgrade of bus public Wi-Fi is a project carried out in three phases. The first phase, which involved replacing Wi-Fi on 271 buses, was completed at the end of last year. In the second phase, a total of 1,629 buses across 158 routes were upgraded, including 1,535 city buses, 39 metropolitan buses, and 44 circular buses.
With the completion of the second phase, a total of 1,900 buses have been upgraded. Including the third phase scheduled to replace Wi-Fi on 567 buses by the end of this year, a total of 2,467 buses will have their public Wi-Fi upgraded to 5G.
The city expects communication speeds to increase from the previous 100Mbps to 250Mbps due to the Wi-Fi equipment replacement.
Additionally, through the Korea Communications Agency (KCA)'s electromagnetic wave measurement service for living environments, the electromagnetic wave intensity of the new Wi-Fi terminals was precisely measured, confirming compliance with human body protection standards.
Citizens who wish to use the 5G bus Wi-Fi service can connect by searching for wireless networks and selecting either the open network (PublicWifi@Free) or the secured network (PublicWifi@Secure). The ID and password for the secured network are both 'wifi'.
