Gwangjin-gu (Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) will hold the ‘28th Gwangjin Residents' Day’ ceremony on the 25th at the Naru Art Center in the Gwangjin Culture and Arts Hall.
Marking its 28th year, ‘Gwangjin Residents' Day’ is a special day where all residents are the protagonists. May 25th was designated as ‘Residents' Day’ in honor of Achasanseong, Gwangjin-gu’s representative landmark, being designated Historic Site No. 234 in 1995. Every year, the day is used to encourage proud residents who have brightened the district and to foster communication and harmony.
This year’s Residents' Day communicates through ‘music.’ Just as various genres harmonize, a cultural and artistic festival has been prepared where residents from all walks of life can enjoy together. Traditional Korean music, classical music, and musicals come together to offer deep emotion and comfort.
The event starts at 3 p.m. and is divided into two parts, presenting a special time to enhance residents’ pride. Anyone interested can participate, and approximately 600 seats are available in the venue.
First, in Part 1, the ‘Reading of the Residents' Charter’ and the ‘Gwangjin Residents Award Ceremony’ will take place. Together, attendees will read the Gwangjin Residents Charter to reaffirm pride, self-esteem, and affection for the community as residents.
Awards will be given in the categories of ▲Economy & Community Development ▲Volunteering & Donation ▲Filial Piety. The awards recognize exemplary residents with outstanding achievements in each category. This year, three individuals and one organization will receive honors. Mayor Kim Kyung-ho, along with city and district council members and other guests, will offer congratulatory remarks.
In Part 2, cultural and artistic performances will follow consecutively. Notably, those with special ties to the district will take the stage, adding new meaning. First, the Korean traditional chamber music group ‘Daseureum,’ known from the Naru Art Center New Year’s Concert, will showcase the beauty of Korea. Next, Kang Shin-joo, a member of the Gwangjin Development Communication Committee and a musical professor at Baekseok Arts University, and Son Yeon-sung, composer of ‘Song of Gwangjin’ and professor at Sejong University Future Education Institute, will perform.
Finally, famous musical actress Hong Ji-min will close the event. As a proud resident of Gwangjin-gu, she will deliver a passionate performance, harmonizing with the residents’ excitement. The setlist includes ‘Dancing Queen’ and ‘Beautiful Rivers and Mountains.’
