KCDC to Start 2023 Community Health Survey 3 Months Earlier
The Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency announced on the 15th that from the 16th to July 31, it will conduct the '2023 Community Health Survey' targeting approximately 230,000 adults aged 19 and older nationwide. The Community Health Survey, which forms the foundation for health policy development, has been conducted annually in the second half of the year by 258 public health centers nationwide since 2008.
As a result, the survey results have been announced the following year, meaning that data from two years prior had to be used when establishing local health care plans. However, concerns have been raised that the timeliness of such statistics diminishes when health care policies and residents' health behaviors change rapidly, as during the COVID-19 period.
Accordingly, the KDCA plans to advance the start of this year's survey by three months and announce the results by December.
The survey method involves professional investigators affiliated with public health centers visiting selected survey households through sampling and conducting one-on-one interviews with respondents using electronic questionnaires on tablet PCs. Respondents will receive a small token of appreciation, and 10% of those who complete the interview will receive a follow-up phone call to verify the survey responses.
