Uljin-gun Wins Grand Prize at This Year's Gyeongbuk Provincial Tax Research Project Presentation Contest
Uljin-gun, Gyeongbuk Province, received the first-place grand prize at the '2023 Local Tax Research Project Presentation Contest' held from the 10th to the 12th, hosted by Gyeongbuk Province and the Korea Local Tax Research Institute.

View original imageThe contest, held in Gyeongju City, was attended by over 150 officials from 23 cities and counties within the province, aiming to create an opportunity to research sound and diverse local finance expansion measures for discovering new local tax sources.
At this local tax research presentation contest, Kim Hyung-kyung, an officer from Geunnam-myeon, Uljin-gun, presented on the topic of ‘Application of Heavy Taxation on Luxury Cars Owned by Corporations’ and received the grand prize.
In line with the regulatory atmosphere, including plans to change corporate-owned vehicles to green license plates, the proposal suggested imposing acquisition tax and automobile tax surcharges on luxury cars with an engine displacement of 3500cc or more and a market standard value of 150 million KRW or more.
This proposal was highly evaluated for its significant contribution to securing local tax revenue from the perspective of tax justice realization and tax equity.
