The Southwest Fisheries Comprehensive Support Complex consists of a total of 10 buildings, with a site area of 102,000㎡, a total floor area of 28,000㎡, and a total project cost of 75.2 billion KRW, making it a large-scale facility.
Supported by Mokpo City and Mokpo Fisheries Cooperative with assistance from the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries and Jeollanam-do, this complex, located in the rear area of the North Port, integrates production, distribution, sales, logistics, and support functions for fisheries facilities, boasting its status as the largest fisheries comprehensive support complex in Korea, covering everything from production to support for fishermen.
The Southwest Fisheries Comprehensive Support Complex, which will lead Mokpo’s fisheries industry for the next 100 years, is equipped with a cold auction hall responsible for maintaining the freshness of seafood, as well as freezing, refrigeration, ice-making facilities, supply warehouses, and fuel supply facilities to support fishery management. It also includes a seafood distribution logistics center and sales facilities for distribution and sales, along with association offices for the convenience of fishermen.
Mokpo Fisheries Cooperative relocated some departments, including the chairman’s office, in May last year and moved all remaining work facilities this year. On the 1st, during the first auction at the fresh fish auction hall, about 5,000 boxes of hairtail, croaker, and skate were traded.
With this, the city and Mokpo Fisheries Cooperative are looking forward to the newly completed Fisheries Comprehensive Support Complex, leaving behind the 86-year era of Seosan-dong Seonchang, becoming a new tourist attraction that will lead the leap of the fisheries industry in the Southwest region.
Mayor Park Hong-ryul expressed his ambition, saying, “Using the Southwest Fisheries Comprehensive Support Complex as a starting point, we will create the value of Mokpo as a city of seafood products sought after by young people through the endless leap of Mokpo’s fisheries industry.”
