The auditorium is a steel arch-type building with an area of 900㎡, completed in September 2017, and the collapsed structure was made of lightweight sound-absorbing material, which is believed to have limited the extent of the damage.
Immediately after the accident, Kim Dae-jung, the Superintendent of Education of Jeollanam-do, visited the school and hospital to assess the situation and comfort the injured teachers and students.
Superintendent Kim plans to convene an emergency task force in the afternoon to thoroughly discuss the damage situation and countermeasures.
