COVID-19 Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters Mentions Moon Administration's Mistakes One by One
Defense Innovation Committee Says "Past Governments Turned Away from North Korea's Nuclear Threat"
Emphasizes 'Science and Technology' in Both Quarantine and Defense
On the 11th, President Yoon Suk-yeol publicly and strongly criticized the previous Moon Jae-in administration in all his schedules. Regarding the K-quarantine promoted by the Moon administration, he said, "It is difficult to give a passing grade to political quarantine," and he belittled the North Korea policy and defense policy by saying, "The military has developed chronic problems."
In his closing remarks at the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasure Headquarters meeting held at the Yongsan Government Complex that morning, President Yoon pointed out, "The previous government praised its COVID-19 quarantine achievements by calling it K-quarantine. It is difficult to give a passing grade to political quarantine that compromised the people's free daily lives, the business rights and property rights of small business owners and self-employed people, and the sacrifices of medical staff."
Regarding the mistakes of the Moon administration's COVID-19 quarantine, President Yoon enumerated points such as ▲not controlling Chinese entrants despite six recommendations from the Korean Medical Association since early 2020 when COVID-19 first occurred ▲the Ministry of Justice minister publicly ordering the search and seizure of the Daegu Shincheonji headquarters despite predictable side effects and opposition from believers ▲the Blue House and government control tower being staffed by ideologically inclined personnel.
He then emphasized the achievements of the Yoon administration's COVID-19 response policy. President Yoon said, "In foreign policy as well, the safety and health of the people are most important," and mentioned, "Early last year, when COVID-19 surged again in China, our government regulated entrants from China; although China retaliated, eventually both sides eased the restrictions."
President Yoon continued, "The most important thing in pandemic response is to select and concentrate limited medical resources on high-risk and severe patients, and for this, the medical system, recommendation system, and information communication data must be linked and platformized," emphasizing, "Only then can customized quarantine suitable for the target be possible." He also ordered, "The government should thoroughly prepare by linking the medical system and data to be ready for the next pandemic."
At the next schedule, the Defense Innovation Committee plenary meeting, he continued to denounce the Moon administration. In his closing remarks, President Yoon explained, "There are two main goals of defense innovation: first, to accurately recognize the dangerous situation we face, and second, to strengthen military power by applying cutting-edge science and technology to our military." He then pointed out, "However, in the past government, the commander-in-chief of the armed forces asked the world to lift sanctions, saying North Korea would denuclearize. In such a situation, what do you think happened to the defense system? Eventually, the military developed chronic problems."
President Yoon particularly emphasized, "The government was obsessed with political ideology and turned its head away from the North Korean nuclear threat," adding, "Our government must normalize these irrational matters."
He added, "We must strengthen defense power in advanced industries and science and technology such as digital, cyber, and quantum, where we have a relative advantage over North Korea," and "Defense is not just about spending the budget but can create exports and employment through the defense industry."
In response to a reporter's remark that "President Yoon has been continuously focusing on the previous government's mistakes at the event following the Cabinet meeting he presided over on the 9th," a key official from the presidential office replied, "In reality, as the government reforms and innovates in important policy areas, the mistakes of the previous administration naturally come to light," and added, "It is not that we are trying to expose the past government's mistakes, but as we try to reform, the past government's mistakes inevitably become apparent."
