Hapcheon-gun Holds Apple Watermelon Shipping Ceremony
Apple Watermelon Production Volume 450,000 Units
Over 1.2 Billion Won in Import Front
Hapcheon-gun, Gyeongnam announced on the 11th that it held an Apple Watermelon shipping ceremony at the First Snow Strawberry Distribution Center located in Yulgok-myeon.
The shipping ceremony was held with the attendance of about 50 people, including Kim Yoon-cheol, the mayor of Hapcheon-gun, county council members, Kang Ho-dong, chairman of Yulgok Nonghyup, Kang Cheol-hoon, CEO of First Snow Strawberry Agricultural Cooperative Corporation, Lee Jang-seok, chairman of the Apple Watermelon Farming Group, and other group members.
The Apple Watermelon farming group is cultivating apple watermelons in 153 greenhouses (14 hectares) across 36 farms this year, and plans to ship apple watermelons until August.
All produced apple watermelons are distributed through contract farming, and the expected production volume this year is 450,000 melons, projected to generate income exceeding 1.2 billion KRW.
Apple watermelons are named for their thin rind and small size, weighing about 1 to 2 kg per melon, allowing them to be peeled and eaten like an apple. The main variety is Nice Shot Plus.
