Kim Soo-young, Gwangju Seo-gu Council Member, Passes Stalking Crime Prevention Bill in Standing Committee
The Seo-gu Council of Gwangju Metropolitan City has taken steps to establish a system to protect and support victims of stalking crimes.
On the 10th, Councilor Kim Su-young announced during the Social and Urban Committee review that the "Ordinance on the Prevention of Stalking Crimes and the Protection and Support of Victims in Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City," which he sponsored, has been passed.
According to the ordinance, the district mayor must take measures to prevent stalking crimes and protect victims, and establish a cooperative system with related organizations such as educational, medical, and investigative agencies, as well as groups and experts, to prepare and implement policies necessary for victim relief.
Additionally, the ordinance requires strict confidentiality of victims and the establishment of measures to prevent secondary harm to victims.
Councilor Kim said, "There is ongoing debate even within the legal community about the scope of stalking. This indicates that awareness of stalking crimes is not clear." He added, "With the enactment of this ordinance, I hope to improve awareness of stalking, reduce stalking crimes, and create a safe Seo-gu through the establishment of policies to protect victims."
