Busan Yeongdo Police Station Applies for Arrest Warrant for Company CEO Related to School Commute Tragedy
The police have requested an arrest warrant for the owner of a fishing net manufacturing company who caused the death of an elementary school girl by dropping a 1.5-ton load while unloading it with a forklift.
On the 10th, the Yeongdo Police Station in Busan announced that they have applied for an arrest warrant for Mr. A, a man in his 70s and the owner of the fishing net manufacturing company, on charges of professional negligence causing death and injury, and violation of the Construction Machinery Management Act. Three employees of the company were booked without detention.
On the 28th of last month, Mr. A dropped a 1.5-ton cylindrical fiber roll while unloading it with a forklift on a road within a school zone in Cheonghak-dong, Yeongdo-gu, Busan, resulting in the death of a third-grade elementary school girl and injuries to three others.

Police investigation revealed that Mr. A was operating the forklift without a license at the time of the accident and was personally unloading the fishing net fibers. It was also confirmed that he had illegally stored the cargo on the sidewalk within the school zone by leaning the fishing net fibers against a utility pole without any safety measures.
