Intensive Crackdown on Illegal Fishing at Sea
To protect marine resources during the spring spawning season, Yeongdeok-gun, Gyeongbuk Province, has conducted intensive crackdowns on illegal fishing from May 1 to 31 in cooperation with the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, Gyeongbuk Province, the National Federation of Fisheries Cooperatives, and other related organizations.

View original imageIn this joint crackdown, national fisheries patrol vessels including the Yeongdeok Nuriho are deployed to monitor ▲ unauthorized and unlicensed fishing ▲ violations of fishing zones ▲ use of illegal fishing gear ▲ illegal capture of juvenile fish.
Particularly, on the East Coast, there will be focused enforcement against violations of the squid closed season, as well as the capture of juvenile fish and female snow crabs.
Additionally, fisheries supervisory officials from Yeongdeok-gun and the Fisheries Management Team will board the fishing patrol vessels in shifts to crack down on illegal fishing at sea, while a dedicated joint inspection team on land will inspect illegal catch and distribution activities at major ports and harbors.
Violations detected during this crackdown will be strictly dealt with according to fisheries-related laws, and administrative measures such as suspension of fishing permits will also be imposed.
