Jeongeup-si Promotes Support Project for Beekeeping Farms Including Honey Production Equipment
Jeongeup City in Jeonbuk Province is investing a total project cost of 500 million KRW to support beekeeping farmers who have been struggling in recent years due to mite damage, bee disappearance, and abnormal weather, by promoting projects such as beekeeping equipment support.
According to the city on the 10th, until the 30th of this month, they are focusing on securing a stable beekeeping environment by supporting high-quality beekeeping equipment support projects, pollen support projects for beekeeping farmers, honey production equipment support projects, and bee immune enhancer support projects.
The main support items include supplementary feed (sugar), solar wax melter, automatic honey extractor, SD-resistant native bees, rapeseed pollen, electric honey extractor cart, honey packaging machine, low-temperature storage, and bee immune enhancers.
The city supports the purchase costs of these items, expecting to reduce the burden on farmers who are experiencing difficulties due to reduced honey production caused by wintering damage this year, thereby helping their income.
Additionally, to supply nectar trees, the city is investing 140 million KRW to plant 10,000 trees (such as acacia, lily tree, Hovenia dulcis, and Styrax japonicus) over an area of 8 hectares in Sangsan-ri, Ongdong-myeon, which is expected to help secure nectar sources for beekeeping farmers in the future.
In October, the 45th National Beekeepers' Day & Honey Festival is planned to be held for two days in Jeongeup City.
The city expects this event to boost the pride of domestic beekeepers, promote domestic beekeeping products, provide a venue for information exchange among beekeepers, attract many tourists, and contribute to revitalizing the local economy.
A city official said, "Due to recent climate change and the phenomenon of bee disappearance, beekeeping farmers are suffering severe damage. Since bees are an important public industry that we must protect, we will do our best to stabilize the beekeeping industry."
